In this article, I will be sharing foods you should avoid for your infant.
1. Honey
Do not feed honey to your infant until he completes one year.
Honey poses a risk of your infant developing a rare bacterial infection called infant botulism.
2. Cow’s milk
Do not feed cow’s milk to your infant until he completes one year.
Your infant cannot digest cow’s milk as easily as breast milk.
3. Avoid mould-ripened soft cheeses
Mould-ripened soft cheeses like brie and camembert must be avoided as they may contain listeria bacteria.
This bacteria is known to cause a severe bacterial infection called listeriosis, which poses a threat to your infant’s health.
4. Raw and partially cooked eggs
Eggs are a nutrient-rich source of high-quality protein.
Your six months old infant can start consuming well-cooked eggs as a part of a well-balanced weaning diet.
However, you should not feed raw and partially cooked eggs to your infant as they contain salmonella bacteria and thus pose a potential risk of food poisoning to your infant.
5. Whole Nuts
Whole nuts, such as almonds, cashew, pistachio, and peanuts, are a potential choking hazard for your infant.
Do not feed whole nuts to your infant until he is five years old.
However, since these foods are healthy, you can finely chop or powder them before adding them to different weaning foods, such as muffins and porridges.
6. Raw Fruits and Vegetables
Raw fruits and vegetables must be avoided unless they are thoroughly washed and cooked as they may contain bacteria.
7. Sweets
Sweets contain a lot of sugar and could cause cavities in your child’s emerging teeth.
Besides, candies also pose a risk of choking.
Do not feed sweets to your infant until he is four years old.
8. Highly processed foods
For example, cakes, donuts and fast food.
They are high in saturated fat, sodium, and sugar which are harmful to your infant’s health.
The above-listed foods and drinks are not healthy and harmful for your infant.
When your infant is ready for some solid food, be cautious of what you are giving him.
