Sending your child to an infant care can be a difficult decision for any parent to make. There are so many things to consider that it might feel easier to just stay home and take care of your child yourself.
Sadly, that’s not an option for many parents. And if you aren’t able to rely on grandparents or maids, infant care can be a good alternative for many parents.
If you are considering infant care centers as a possibility for when you go back to work, here are some important things to note before deciding on an infant care.
How soon should you register?
While you are only technically allowed to register your infant for infant care after your child has been born, some infant care centers will allow you to register your kid before that. So call your prospective child care centres to find out if this is an option for you.
Your second trimester is a good time to start looking at child care centers as you want to be sure you have enough time to thoroughly explore your options. Looking early will also ensure that you’re able to secure a slot at your preferred infant care center.
At Nurture Infant House Tampines, we will be happy to provide a virtual tour to help you understand more about our premises, curriculum and answer any questions that you may have.
What are the school fees?
Depending on the school, fees can differ wildly from center to center. Privately-owned infant care centres can charge anywhere from $1290 to $2000+ per month, though there are some that charge as high as $4000+!
At Nurture Infant House, we charge $1600 for a full day of infant care (7am to 7pm) but $1000 for a half day of infant care (7am to 1pm / 1pm to 7am).
What government schemes am I eligible for?
For parents who are concerned about how they will need to pay to send their child for infant care, the government has some grants and schemes in place to help offset some of the cost.
For example, the government has set up the Baby Bonus scheme which allows parents to receive money to help pay for some of their kid’s expenses. This baby bonus comes in 3 parts: a cash gift, the First Step grant, and dollar-for-dollar matching of savings for your child. You can check your child’s eligibility for various grants on Baby Bonus - Parent Portal Homepage, and enrol online.
To see what other grants you and your spouse are eligible for, you can check out our full article on government schemes here.
What are the operation hours of the school?
As working adults, it is important to consider the school’s operation hours as you have to know whether your schedule lines up with theirs. Depending on what time your work day starts and ends, you’ll have to consider if you have enough time to send and pick up your child to and from school. If the school closes before you and your spouse are able to leave work, you may have to make alternative arrangements for your child to be picked up from the infant care center.
So when you are looking at infant care centers, make sure to keep these factors in mind when thinking about whether you are comfortable leaving your child in their care.
Location, location, location!
For many parents, location of the infant care centre would be very important. For example, it would have to be near home or the grandparents' home. However, do not just choose an infant care based on convenience alone! Consider the good review that our centre has received, despite being in a location that is not near to the parents' home.
"Despite the numerous new childcare options nearer to my house, I insisted on my 2 younger kids to attend Genesis. Likewise, we also recommend Genesis Childcare to our neighbourhood friends."

"Currently, my 2 younger sons are also attending Genesis. Despite the numerous new childcare options nearer to my house,
I insist for my 2 younger kids to attend Genesis. When I tried the nearer childcare centres for my 2nd child, the other childcare centre was not able to provide the similar nurturing and holistic learning environment that Genesis has."
- Kieran's mother
"My 2 sons graduated from Genesis. Genesis has done a good job in preparing them for Primary 1. Both my sons are coping very well in Primary school. Sometimes they do miss Genesis. Without any hesitation or need to source for other childcare centres near my premises,
I enrolled my daughter (now n1) at Genesis. I believe Genesis in their qualified and reliable teachers, and their dedication towards the children. In just barely a month since my daughter started attending Genesis, she always come back home happy and sings to us songs, and looks forward to school the next day. My daughter is in good hands under Genesis. Thank you to all the teachers at Genesis"
