Meditation for Children

Meditation in the infant care classroom has received much attention recently, even though there has yet to be as much general study on mindfulness's impact on children as on adults.
The Compassionate Schools Project, which affects about 20,000 children in Louisville, Kentucky, elementary and secondary public schools, is one flagship program. The curriculum integrates mindfulness for stress management and self-control, contemplative movements, postures, and breathing for physical awareness and agility, nutritional knowledge for healthy eating, and social and emotional skills for successful interpersonal relationships with the stated goal of "Educating the Whole Child."

Children can learn the fundamentals of emotional regulation through Meditation, including controlling their breathing and heart rate, recognizing signs of stress and other mental problems, and maintaining a healthy sympathetic nervous system function.
The practice of Meditation can improve a child's capacity for concentration. Many children who struggle with PTSD and ADHD benefit from this. This also enhances the academic achievement of the kids.
The soothing skills taught during Meditation can assist children in overcoming anxiety, stress, and other mental traumas they may have to deal with in the future.

Then, as they practice focusing on the present, children grow to feel at ease in silence and stillness. Through this practice, they may sharpen their attention and focus, two abilities that they can apply to various situations and that will be very helpful to them in the future.
Teaching young children to slow down and meditate helps them to feel less anxious during the day. By taking deep breaths, a person's body can recognize that they are safe and do not need to go into flight or fight mode.
How can you educate a child in Meditation?
It's more complicated to teach children or toddlers to meditate. It's difficult, no doubt, but not impossible. But keep in mind, be sure to talk to your kids about it and encourage their participation.
If you are having trouble with the same, look at these quick tips.
Start by defining Meditation. Avoid complex terms and instead use straightforward ones like "calm," "concentration," and "present." You can also use animated YouTube videos to get your child's undivided focus on the subject.
Sorting out their preferences should come first. See whether they can focus more clearly through silent or guided Meditation. Children generally respond better to guided mediation, but preferences might vary.
For kids, combine mindfulness meditation with storytelling. Make them create scenarios or transport them to a far-off, enjoyable place in their imaginations. Tell them to concentrate on what they observe there.
Make the procedure into a game. You can arrange hearing competitions where you make youngsters meditate while listening to sounds. They may be instructed to write down every sound they heard during a five-minute meditation, and the person with the most entries on his list would win that round. Kids can concentrate on their breath more easily when playing games like these.
Do it jointly. Set aside a short period each day for Meditation with your child. Keep in mind that kids always want to follow their parents, so if you do it, they will probably follow you.
