Life Before and After Your Baby Arrives: A Parent's Guide

Updated: Oct 2, 2022

In this article, I will be sharing what you can expect in your life once your bundle of joy arrives.

1. Your Body

After

It is not easy for you to return to your body before pregnancy. But it is not impossible.

You need to keep working out and maintain a strict diet.

2. Your Sleep and Alarm Clock

Before

Decide what time to wake up.

After

Sleep when your baby sleeps and wake up when your baby wakes up.

Your baby is now your alarm clock.

3. Your Meals

Before

You have time to prepare meals which consist of main course spreads and appetizers.

Take photos of every tasty dish you made and promptly posted them on social media.

After

You need to cook meals easily and finished quickly.

Avoid unhealthy foods so that it doesn’t affect the quality of breastmilk for your baby.

For example, soups, sandwiches.

When is the last time you actually sit and have meals at the dining table?

4. Your Vacations and Hangouts

Before

Planned or impromptu vacations and hangouts.

Watch movies, read, swim, shop and afternoon tea.

After

Maybe 10 min Me time. Talk to your baby like cooing, making funny sounds to keep your baby distracted while you pump out breast milk.

5. Your Car

After

Stack with baby items and has a baby seat.

There is a sticker “Baby On Board” at the back of your car.

6. Your Shopping

Before

You were up-to-date on the latest fashion trends and promotions.

Buy at the nearest fashion outlet.

After

Your shopping list includes the latest baby items and promotions.

7. Your Time

After

Your baby is dependent on you for everything.

Your baby needs to be fed, changed, bathed, held, swayed, or rocked to sleep.

When your husband gets back to work, you will be left alone with your baby.

8. Your Marriage

After

There is little time for romance in marriage.

You will struggle to manage quality time and take care of each other.

On the other hand, your baby also brings you closer as a married couple.

You may start to notice your husband’s efforts to ensure things go smoothly, involvement in taking care of your baby, and the little sacrifices he makes for your happiness.

Get helps from your parents to have some time off to focus on your marriage.

For example,

Have a date night with your husband probably once a month.

Travel without your baby once or twice a year.

9. You Become More Organized.

After

When your baby is sleeping, prepare a week of food like chopped vegetables, fruits and chicken or pump milk in advance to feed your baby on time.

Takeaway or Delivery when needed.

10. Your Financial Health

After

We know how expensive it is to raise a child.

Try to save whenever possible.

Say “No” to ongoing expensive dinners and clothes.

Maybe once or twice on special memorable dates with your husband. Use the money to buy for your baby so that your baby gets the best.

11. Your Laundry

After

Your baby needs to have clean diapers, cute little baby clothes and food bibs all the time.

If you miss out on your laundry for a day, you will see a mountain of dirty clothes.

12. Your House

Before

Clean and tidy.

After

Full of toys etc on the floor.

Yes, life changes when you have a baby.

It brings you so much joy like you could have never imagined before.

You will be overwhelmed with the love and surprises your bundle of joy will shower you with.
