Sitting up requires a complex interaction of your baby’s brain, nerves, muscles, and joints to allow him to balance the body in that position.

How to teach your baby to sit up?
Encourage your baby to do tummy time
Tummy time is one of the earliest exercises for your baby.
This not only helps strengthen your baby’s back, shoulder, bones, joints and muscles, but also helps your baby achieve some milestones, such as rolling, sitting, crawling, standing, and walking, in a timely way.
Support your baby’s back
Four months old
Encourage your baby to sit with a supporting back for five minutes each day.
Place toys around your baby or read to him during these five minutes.
If your baby fall, encourage him to keep trying.
Six months old
Encourage your baby to sit without support for five minutes each day.
Sitting without support could strengthen his muscles.
Place your baby on the floor with his hands in front of his legs.
It will help him use his arms and legs to balance himself.
Place toys around your baby. Let your baby learn to balance his body as he tries to grab the toys.
If your baby fall, encourage him to keep trying.
Important points to take note of when helping your baby to sit
Stay close to your baby when he begins sitting up position.
Place your baby on a soft surface like a mattress or place pillows around him on a padded floor.
This prevents your baby from getting hurt if he falls during the initial stage.
Do not leave your baby unattended even if he has support from a high chair.
Consult your doctor if your baby does not get into a sitting position by the tenth month old.
