In this article, I will be sharing ways to save money when taking care of your newborn.
1. Borrow a breast pump.
An electric breast pump can be expensive.
Ask around and borrow one instead. Once sterilized, it is good as new.
If your husband and you plan to have more children, buy an electric breast pump and can continue to use it for the next child etc.
2. Pick your diaper brand wisely.
Quality diapers don't need to come at a high price.
Keep your newborn comfy and dry.
Dermatologically tested and hypoallergenic.
3. Do not buy baby clothes too far in advance.
Newborns can have sudden growth.
4. Choose unisex clothes.
Besides blue for male newborns and pink for female newborns, you will save money if you opt for white, yellow and green instead.
It can pass down to other newborns too.
5. Sign up for vouchers and newsletters.
Signing up for as many baby-related vouchers and newsletters helps you to save money.
There are always % off vouchers, buy one get one free promotion and baby fairs with great discounts.
Check your emails frequently to find out.
6. Test drive your friend's stroller.
Not sure what make or model of a stroller to go for?
Don't be lured by marketing campaigns and what the celebrities use, ask your friends instead.
Push the stroller on and off-road.
Try to get the stroller in and out of your home.
Check if it has enough storage compartments.
If your husband and you don’t have money constraints, get a stroller and car seat.
You will soon get a feel for what you think will work for your family and you.
7. Buy one pair of newborn shoes.
Your newborn develops the walking muscles in his feet better when he doesn't wear shoes.
There are many newborn shoes selling in the shopping malls which look cute.
Your newborn might only walk 10 steps a day, one pair of shoes is enough.
When the pair of shoes is old, get new pair.
8. Buy white sleepsuits, all in ones and socks.
Forget stains. Bleach them if gets dirty.
Manage better than a patterned or coloured version.
9. Visit a library.
Find books or videos to let your newborn read or watch.
Be cautious when you are reading a library book to your newborn.
Do not let your newborn get hold of the book and tear. If not, you will need to pay the library for the torn book.
Find classes in the library or community centre to register your newborn and you.
It will be free or a lot cheaper than those in shopping malls etc.
Check out any trial class or can use skill future for those in the shopping malls.
This will help you to save more.
I hope all these pointers will help you to save money when taking care of your newborn.
